How to crush a can in less then 30 milliseconds with only a can water and a heat souce.

Posted by Blogsnapper at 07:02 am

This is my second instructable that I learned in science class a few months ago. It is cool because after a few steps you can crush a can faster than you can blink.

Things you Need

The Things you Need.

. A can…

. A stove,or bunsen burner. (some kind of heat source that can boil water)

. Tongs (to hold the can while heating it).

.A bowl (to fill with water)

. Water (room temperature water to fill the can with, and cool water to fill the bowl with)

Let’s get Started!

Okay, here we go. First fill a bowl with cold water, then fill your can about 1/6th of the way full with room temperature water. Next, using the tongs hold the can over your heat source until you can see well defined steam rising from the drinking hole. Last step, …

My GPS Chimes are wind chimes that are triggered by an individual’s proximity to a given location — networked via GPS, cellphone and the internet. Think of it as mile-wide radius around the wind chimes, where my networked presence and GPS location (via Mologogo) send a virtual breeze to announce my travel home.

Self defense with a cane or umbrella… 1901

Posted by Blogsnapper at 07:02 am

Barton-Wright1.1
From Pearson’s Magazine -January 1901, notes by Ralph Grasso and Joseph Svinth -

Self-defence with a Walking-stick: The Different Methods of Defending Oneself with a Walking-Stick or Umbrella when Attacked under Unequal Conditions (PartI):

It must be understood that the new art of self-defence with a walking-stick, herewith introduced for the first time, differs essentially from single-stick or sword-play; for a man may be a champion in the use of sword or single-stick [EN2] and yet be quite unable to put a walking-stick to any effective use as a weapon of defence. The simple and sufficient reason to account for this is that both in single-stick and sword-play a cut is always taken up by the hilt of the weapon, whereas if you attempted to guard a blow with a walking-stick — which has no hilt — in the same way as you would with a sword, the blow would slide down your stick onto your hand and disable you. Therefore, in order to make a stick a real means of self-defence, it has been necessary to devise a system by which one can guard a blow in such a way as to cause it to slide away from the hand instead of toward it, and thus obviate the risk of being disarmed by being hit upon the fingers.

Bringing back the modem

Posted by Blogsnapper at 07:02 am

Forwardmain
Jonah Brucker-Cohen is working on a project that turns your Wifi Router into a modem-sounding reminder of the 80s/90s -

Forward Compatible (FC) is a parasitic object meant to be attached to a Wi-Fi or fixed network router. The device monitors network traffic and when packets are sent, they are converted to audio, in the form of a 2400 baud modem dialing up and connecting, and played through the device’s on-board speakers. The focus of the project is to historically inform the way we think about network connectivity in public spaces by disrupting the supposed serenity of modern technology with a reminder of the past. FC is the first of several parasitic network devices I am currently working on.

Goodness, this is incredible -

How about a “Sauron’s Eye” for your car? My wooden counterweight is on fire here at the top of the coil. It’s quite safe to be in the car although my son was apprehensive. This was a hire car (as I don’t own one) and it still works. I did get extra insurance “in case”.
