We found these gorgeous lamps, made from clear-cased micro-cassettes, on Boing Boing Gadgets. This seems like a cool, easy project that you could also do with full-sized clear cassettes (you’d just want to use fewer of them so your lamp wouldn’t be huge). Check out the cool patterns the light makes.

Note: This rather annoying Flash-based site does not contain any how-to instructions on these lamps, only photos (found in the Portfolio->Industrial Design section).

It’s barbeque season, folks. Many grilling experts recommend preparing your charcoal in a charcoal chimney. Aaron Newcomb made his own charcoal chimney for less than 20 dollars and documented how on his website.

The fine fellows at GeekDad wrote a lovely review of the Maker’s Notebook. Here are some excerpts:
The front and back cover are pure cyan with a white dashed grid — basically, a canvas for your creativity (see photo). Maybe you want to color-code the covers by topic or date, maybe you just want to make it pretty. In any case, you can customize your notebook like it was a Guitar Hero controller: the Maker’s Notebook comes with tons of stickers to help you personalize it.
In classic composition book tradition it has reference charts in the back. But forget kiddie helpers like multiplication tables and classroom reminders. This is grownup stuff: it is a section of handy reference material for makers, hackers, tinkerers and scientists. A multimeter how-to, sewing needles, LEDs. Can’t remember Asimov’s Laws of Robotics? It’s in there. Need a Morse Code chart? Got it. There are twenty pages of this reference material. The book even has a bookmark ribbon and comes with a giant rubber band to help keep it closed….
…Your thoughts are important; treat them that way.

Caution! There’s been a mythological creature sighting in the CRAFT Flickr pool: this needle-felted Yeti by LincolnWorld. Needle-felting is a perfect choice for making a yeti–the fuzziness of the fibers reminds me of the way “photos” of yetis always have that fuzzy look to them. Well done!

I really like when data is visualized in a non-traditional way. We have seen a lot of Arduino and XPort projects that can visualize data, but not too many are as unique as “Moving Planks”.
The Moving planks project is a collaboration between the 1scale1 and the ITU University of Copenhagen based upon Anna Vallgarda research on composite material. The goal was to visualize sound into wood. The piece consists of ten planks that are individually programmed to react on sound and do so by bending when spoken to and retract if the surroundings are quiet.

I recently rescued a kitten and I needed to make him his own litter box. I don’t want him to upset the other cats I have, he may be sick, and he’s not inside all the time and it won’t be permanent. This Instructable costs pretty much nothing to do. If you’re wondering my new kittens name is "…

Last Saturday, Boston’s award-winning eco-boutique Greenward hosted a release party for CRAFT: 07 with the help of The Sampler.
