Build a LapTop CurveTracer

Posted by Blogsnapper at 01:07 pm

Do it with RRIO quad and a binary counter. Making A CurveTracer What
does it take to do a curve tracer function in spice. First there is a
need for a sweeping voltage which is applied to a transistor’s
collector. And a staircase current needsto be applied to the base.
In spice this is done…

Now that’s a lotta perfboard …

Wholelottastripboard Cc

Wandering the halls of Wikipedia, I came across this jaw-droppingly complex example of a perfboarding project (stripboard, to be precise).

The unit was built as a prototype Dolby SR noise reduction circuit and was photographed by Mr. Gregory Maxwell at the San Francisco Airport Museum’s History of Audio exhibition. A few pics from the 2006 exhibit can be found over at Stereophile

a quick, dirty, and effective reflector for the lab network

Posted by Blogsnapper at 01:07 pm

This week I moved the Wireless Router to the front of our property.
The router of course has a rubber ducky antenna. The nature of a
monopole antenna is to radiate the signal in all directions equally
forming a doughnut like cloud of radiation . Because the signal of
the box is omnidirectional…

Udi Tirosh, of DIY Photography, sent us a link to this awesome homemade, cardboard, three-lens “action camera:”

Steven Monteau, the out-of-this-world-designer who created the Battlefield Pinhole Camera (and the amazing bokeh video) is back with a new camera the Guillotine (A.K.A Adidas) Camera. It is a homemade camera that creates actions sequences, in a fashion very similar to the Lomo Super Sampler (only better). It does so on 120 film and with great fineness.

Here’s a sampling of what La Guillotine can do, converting its output into animated GIFs.

Fabulous French Knot Monogram Project

Posted by Blogsnapper at 01:07 pm

french_knot_fabric_design.jpg

For embroidery folks, the French knot tends to be a stitch you love or hate. (I’m in the “love” camp, primarily because of the trick I learned from Jenny Hart for fool-proof French knots) I love seeing French knots worked in interesting ways, because they create fantastic texture and depth, especially when they are used in high volume. That’s why I’m in love with this monogram project from Fourteen Countess. The way she worked the knots to coordinate with and accentuate the pattern in the fabric is just plain brilliant. My mind is exploding with ideas using this kind of application … [via Feeling Stitchy]

Gestural interface via flamboyant glove

Posted by Blogsnapper at 01:07 pm

MIT student Robert Wang and professor Jovan Popovic have come up with a neat project, creatively titled real-time hand-tracking with a color glove, a gestural interface consisting of nothing but a webcam and a startlingly polychrome glove. According to the creators, an API will soon be released. Cool! [Via Core77]

Nick Starno’s 3D-printed Makerbot watch case (can haz STLs in Thingiverse?) is pretty neat, but it also made me think it would be super cool to have a version of the PCB with a compass module included — pocket watch slash compass? [Via clothbot]

Banner Thatgirl Summer Jacket

Calling all crafty knitters! Don’t you love our new top-down knitting pattern for the perfect summer cardigan? Our That Girl! Summer Jacket by Nikol Lohr is a retro-inspired cropped summer jacket goes from sunshine to summer nights or chilly air-conditioned offices. Starting next week, join Nicole and I in our special knit-along to make this cute cardi. I will be knitting the pattern and showing off my progress, while Nikol will show you how to vary the pattern and will also make a collarless/longer cardigan with a sleeve variation. She’ll also share info on how you can adjust the pattern size for teens, kids, and babies.

The CotLin DK yarn from Knit Picks is an affordable yarn with lots of great colors. At just $2.79 a ball you can’t go wrong. (I chose the linen color for my sweater.) You can also use any other yarn of your own choice. Just make sure to check your gauge to fit the pattern.

To join, simply add yourself to our That Girl! Summer Jacket Flickr Group and if you are on Ravelry, add this project to your queue and cast on! (Click the Ravelry button below.)
